Scholarships and Prizes 2008: Travel and Study Abroad

Scatcherd European Scholarships 2009–10

A number of Scatcherd European Scholarships will be available in 2009–10 for graduate and undergraduate students, who will continue to be registered for a degree at Oxford, to undertake study or research in another European country (including Russia and all countries to the west of the Urals, but not Turkey).

The scholarships are tenable in any subject area and will not normally be awarded for a period of study of less than three months or more than one year. The scholarships will cover the cost of any tuition or registration fees and provide a grant towards living costs, which is expected to be about £10,750 for a full year. The precise level of funding will be determined according to the proposed place of study, the length of the attachment and any funding which the student will receive, such as Local Authority travel grant or funding from a Research Council. The scholarship does not include the payment of any Oxford fees for which the scholarship may be liable whilst abroad. Students taking part in an exchange under the Erasmus Scheme will not normally be eligible for Scatcherd European Scholarships.

Applicants are advised to contact the institution to which they wish to be attached before submitting the scholarship application form. Successful candidates will be required to obtain the approval of their college to study away from Oxford, and, where applicable, graduate students must also obtain dispensation from residence from their faculty board.

Further information about the terms and conditions of the scholarships and the application form may be obtained from the International Student Advisory Services, Examination Schools, Room 5, 75–81 High Street, Oxford OX1 4BG (telephone: Oxford (2)70105, e-mail: international.office@admin.ox.ac.uk, Web site: www.admin.ox.ac.uk/io/).

The closing date for applications will be Friday, 6 February 2009.
