Scholarships and Prizes 2008: Medieval and Modern Languages

Fiedler Memorial Fund Travel Grant 2008–9 Research Students

The Modern Languages Board, on behalf of the Curators of the Taylor Institution, have set aside a non- recurrent allocation from the Fiedler Memorial Fund for the purpose of making small travel grants for research students (both for students who are not eligible for grants from other funds available to the Modern Languages Board, and for students who apply to such funds after these become exhausted for the year). For the current academic year the allocation available for this purpose is not exceeding £500 in all.

The Fiedler Memorial Fund exists for the promotion of the advanced study of Modern European Languages and Literatures among members of the University of Oxford, and the costs of publication of the results of their researches, special consideration being given to German. Any grants made from the sums now set aside would have to come within these terms.

The Modern Languages Board will not make grants towards the costs of attendance at languages courses, and the fact that an applicant has chosen to study in one of the countries concerned will not in itself qualify his or her work for support from the fund.

Those eligible to apply are students for Oxford postgraduate degrees and diplomas (in respect of travel for work for the Oxford degree or diploma concerned). The Modern Languages Board may take into account any other possible sources of financial support available to applicants.

To apply, please complete an application form available from the Modern Languages faculty Web site www.mod-langs.ox.ac.uk. Please return the form by post or e-mail to Prizes and Awards, 41 Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JF (prizesandawards@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk) by Friday of of week three of Hilary Term (Friday, 6 February 2009).
