Oxford University Gazette, 24 July 2008: University Acts

GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL

Corrigenda

The recently republished regulations establishing the Fred Hodcroft Prize contained some errors (Gazette, 7 February 2008, p. 636, and 1 May 2008, p. 989); the corrected regulations are set out below (new text underlined).

Establishment of the Fred Hodcroft Prize

In Part 2 of Council Regulations 25 of 2002, concerning trusts (Statutes, 2000, p. 638, as redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, Gazette, Vol. 132, p. 1461), insert new § 108 as follows and renumber existing §§ 108–13 as §§ 109–14:

'§ 108. The Fred Hodcroft Prize

1. The donation, together with any further donations for this purpose, shall be known as the Fred Hodcroft Prize and shall be used to support and encourage study and research in the history of the Spanish language or of Spanish dialects.

2. The University shall apply the net income of the Fund towards the awarding of a Prize for especially worthy performance in the history of the Spanish language or of Spanish dialects in the Final Honour School of Modern Languages or one of the Joint Honour Schools including Modern Languages. The prize shall be awarded annually, if there is a candidate of sufficient merit, by the Examiners in the Final Honour School of Modern Languages to the candidate whose performance in the history of the Spanish language or of Spanish dialects they judge to be the best.

3. The administration of the Fund, and the application of its capital and income, shall be the responsibility of the Board of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages.

4. Regulations 2 and 3 above may be amended by Council.'

[This change, made on the recommendation of the Humanities Divisional Board, establishes the Fred Hodcroft Prize to support and encourage study and research in the history of the Spanish language or of Spanish dialects. The Prize is funded in honour of Mr Fred Hodcroft, University Lecturer in Spanish, 1953–90, and Fellow of St Cross, 1965–90.]
