Notice of cancellation

Declaration of approval of nomination of Mr Bernard Taylor as an 'external' member of the Council of the University

The meeting of Congregation is cancelled. The sole business comprises a question to which no opposition has been notified and in respect of which no request for an adjournment has been received, and Mr Vice-Chancellor will accordingly declare the proposal to reappoint Mr Bernard Taylor as a member of Council until MT 2011 approved.

Note: Sir Victor Blank's term of office as an 'external' member of Council will end on 30 September 2007 and therefore the nomination now lapses.

3 Admission of Clerks of the Market

¶ The Oration by the Vice-Chancellor and the admission of the Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Clerks of the Market will take place in Convocation House.

CONGREGATION 9 October 2 p.m.

¶ Members of Congregation are reminded that written notice of any intention to vote against the resolutions below, signed in each case by at least two members of Congregation, must be given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 1 October (see the note on the conduct of business in Congregation at the end of 'University Agenda').

1 Voting on Resolutions authorising expenditure from the Higher Studies Fund

(i) That the University be authorised to expend from that part of the Higher Studies Fund known as Bodleian Fund B the sum of £30k to allow it to catalogue the Opie Collection.

(ii) That the University be authorised to expend from that part of the Higher Studies Fund earmarked for Zoology the sum of £40k towards the costs of refurbishment of a greenhouse essential for experimental population biology research undertaken under the auspices of the Hope Professor of Zoology.


2 Voting on Resolution approving the conferment of an Honorary Degree

That the conferment of the Degree of Master of Arts, honoris causa, upon MR ROGER WHITE be approved.

¶ Mr White joined the University's Department of Anatomy (now part of the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics) in 1963 and was Chief Technician from 1998 until his retirement. During his forty-three years of service, he supported seven heads of department during a period of great change with exemplary sensitivity and dedication.

If the resolution is approved, the degree will be conferred at a ceremony on 24 November.
