The meeting of Congregation is cancelled. The sole business comprises a question to which no opposition has been notified and in respect of which no request for an adjournment has been received, and Mr Vice-Chancellor will accordingly declare the Vice-Chancellor's Oration presented without a meeting under the provisions of Sect. 7 (1) of Statute IV (Supplement (1) to Gazette No. 4633, 9 October 2002, Vol. 133, p. 100).

Presentation of Vice-Chancellor's Oration

The Oration delivered by the Vice-Chancellor on 4 October 2007 will be declared presented.

CONGREGATION 15 January 2 p.m.

¶ Members of Congregation are reminded that written notice of any intention to vote against the resolution below, signed by at least two members of Congregation, must be given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 7 January (see the note on the conduct of business in Congregation at the end of 'University Agenda').

Voting on Resolution approving the conferment of Honorary Degree

That the conferment of the Degree of Master of Arts, honoris causa, upon MR ROGER BOWLER be approved.

¶ Mr Bowler served the Department of Chemistry for over forty-five years from September 1961 until his retirement in February 2007 as Head of the Mechanical Workshop. His expertise made a significant contribution to the research of a department that has developed an international reputation for its innovative instrumental design.

If the resolution is approved, the degree will be conferred at a ceremony on 1 March 2008.
