CONSULTATIVE NOTICECommittee on Statutes Before the Privy CouncilNotice of proposed consent to amendments to college statutesMagdalen CollegeThe Committee on Statutes before the Privy Council, acting under authority delegated to it by Council, is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendments to Statutes IV.II(1) and XXII of Magdalen College as approved by the Governing Body on 15 February 2006, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. This consent will be effective unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 7 August. The effect of the amendments is to restrict right to free residential accommodation in college to stipendiary fellows. Balliol CollegeThe Committee on Statutes before the Privy Council, acting under authority delegated to it by Council, is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendments to Statutes II College as approved by the Governing Body on 14 February 2007, is so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. This consent will be effective unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 7 August. The effect of the amendments is to extend the tenure of the Master and his successors and to provide for a period of one year's notice of resignation of an incumbent Master.
APPOINTMENTSNuffield Professorship of Anaesthetic Scienceirene m.c. tracey, ma d.phil Oxf, Student and Medical Tutor, Christ Church, and Professor of Pain Relief, Departments of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics, and Clinical Neurology, has been appointed to the professorship. She took up her duties on 1 July 2007. Professor Tracey will be a fellow of Pembroke College. Ernest Butten Professorship of Management StudiesTHOMAS H. NOE, BA Whittier College, MBA PH.D Texas, A.B. Freeman Professor of Finance, A.B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, New Orleans, and Visiting Professor, Saïd Business School, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 1 September 2007. Professor Noe will be a fellow of Balliol College. Appointment to Readership and Conferment of TitleELLEKE DEIRDRE BOEHMER, BA Rhodes, M.PHIL D.PHIL Oxf, Fellow of Wolfson College, has been appointed to a Readership in World Literatures in English, from 1 September 2007 until the retiring age. On behalf of the Recognition of Distinction Committee the Vice-Chancellor has conferred the title of Professor of World Literatures in English on Dr Boehmer. Conferment of Title of Visiting ProfessorThe Humanities Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor on PROFESSOR ROBERT ADAMS, AB BD Princeton, MA PH.D Cornell, MA Oxf, Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy, Merton College, for a period of five years with effect from 1 October 2007. Conferments of TitleThe following titles have been conferred by the Vice-Chancellor on the behalf of the Recognition of Distinction Committee: Z. MOLNAR, D.PHIL Oxf, DM Szeged, Fellow of St John's: Professor of Developmental Neuroscience, with effect from 20 June 2007. A. Department of Plant SciencesThe Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Board has conferred the Headship of the Department of Plant Sciences upon PROFESSOR JANE LANGDALE, B.SC Bath, MA Oxf, PH.D Lond, University Lecturer in Plant Science and Fellow of Queen's College, for a period of five years from 1 October 2007.
