GENERAL NOTICE

College Contributions

The College Contributions Committee met on 20 December 2006 and reviewed the taxable wealth computations submitted for 2005–6. The result of applying the previously agreed tax rates to colleges' taxable wealth would be to raise substantially more than the tax target of £3.4 million.

Accordingly, the committee agreed to follow the principle adopted last year, namely that in cases where there was a substantive discrepancy between the aggregate result when the formula was applied across all colleges and the £3.4m target, an adjustment would be made. For 2005–6 this adjustment is a rebate for all colleges making contributions; each college's tax liability being reduced by the percentage necessary, when applied to all contributing colleges, to reduce the total tax received down to £3.4 million.

APPOINTMENT

Conferment of the Title of Visiting Professor

The Humanities Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in History on JEAN-FREDERIC SCHAUB, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, for a period of two years from 1 October 2006.
