APPOINTMENTS

Bywater and Sotheby Professorship of Byzantine and Modern Greek Language and Literature

MARC DIEDERIK LAUXTERMANN (Candidatus, Doctorandus, PH.D. Amsterdam), Professor, Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies, University of Amsterdam, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 1 January 2007.

Professor Lauxtermann will be a fellow of Exeter College.

Professorship of Economics

NEIL SHEPHARD, FBA (BA York, M.SC., PH.D. London), Official Fellow in Economics, Nuffield College, and Professor of Economics, has been appointed to a statutory Professorship of Economics with effect from 1 August 2006.

Professor Shephard will become a Faculty Fellow of Nuffield College.

Andreas Idreos Professorship of Science and Religion

PETER HARRISON (B.SC., BA, PH.D. Queensland, MA Yale), Professor of History and Philosophy, Bond University, Australia, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 8 January 2007.

Professor Harrison will be a fellow of Harris Manchester College.

Conferments of the Title of Visiting Professor

The Humanities Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Indian History on MR JASWANT SINGH, Member of the Indian Parliament, Leader of the Opposition, for one year from 1 October 2006.

On the recommendation of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, the Social Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Evidence-Based Social Intervention on professor M. SANDERS (BA, MA, DIP.ED.PSYCH., PH.D.) for three years from 1 October 2006.

Reconferment of the Title of Visiting Professor

The Medical Sciences Board has reconferred the title of Visiting Professor in Cancer Prevention Control on P. BOYLE (B.SC., PH.D. Glasgow), currently Director, World Health Organisation Collaborative Centre for Statistical Modelling in the Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases, for five years from 1 December 2006.
