GENERAL NOTICESCommittee on Statutes Before the Privy CouncilNotice of proposed consent to amendments to the statutes of St Hilda's CollegeThe committee on Statutes before the Privy Council, acting under authority delegated to it by Council, is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendments to Statutes II, III, XI and XII of St Hilda's College as approved by the Governing Body on 14 February 2007, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. This consent will be effective unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 26 March 2007. The effects of the amendments are to remove references to women in the statutes.

APPOINTMENTSLovells Professorship of Law and FinanceJOHN H. ARMOUR, BCL MA Oxf, LLM Yale, Fellow of Trinity Hall and Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge, Visiting Professor, Faculty of Economics, University of Bologna, and currently Research Fellow, Columbia Law School, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 1 July 2007. Dr Armour will be a fellow of Oriel College. Harold Vyvyan Harmsworth Professorship of American History 2007–8LIZABETH COHEN, PH.D California, Howard Mumford Jones Professor of American Studies, Harvard University, has been appointed to the Visiting Professorship for the academic year 2007–8. Professor Cohen will be a fellow of Queen's College. Conferments of the Title of Visiting ProfessorThe Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Zoology upon PROFESSOR MICHAEL H. DEPLEDGE, B.SC PH.D D.SC Lond, FLS, FZS, FRSA, C.BIOL, F.I.BIOL, Senior Science Adviser, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, for a three years from 1 March 2007. The Medical Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor of Knowledge Management upon J.A.M. GRAY, MB CH.B MD Glas, currently Director of Clinical Knowledge Process and Safety for the National Programme for IT, Department of Health. Readership in Applied Mathematics and Conferment of TitlePROFESSOR BARBARA NIETHAMMER, B.SC PH.D Bonn, Fellow-elect of St Edmund Hall, has been appointed to the Readership in Applied Mathematics, from 1 October 2007 until the retiring age. On behalf of the Recognition of Distinction Committee the Vice-Chancellor has conferred the title of Professor of Applied Mathematics upon Dr Niethammer.
