Voting on a Legislative Proposal: Egerton Coghill
Landscape Prize
Explanatory note
The following Legislative Proposal submitted by Council
under Part 2 of Congregation Regulations 2 of 2002
(Supplement (1) to Gazette No. 4633, 9 October
2002, Vol. 133, p. 161, as amended on 12 October 2004,
Gazette, Vol. 135, p. 214), which is promoted on
the recommendation of the Humanities Board, makes changes to
the existing legislation governing the Egerton Coghill
Landscape Prize. In order to encourage a broader field of
applications it is proposed to remove the requirements that
only paintings 'in oils' and 'of some 0.4 square metres in
area' shall be admissible as entries. Entries must, however,
continue to be 'small', as determined by the prize judges, in
recognition of the wishes of the donor and his family.
WHEREAS it is expedient to change the existing
provisions governing the Egerton Coghill Landscape
Prize, THE UNIVERSITY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS.
In Part 14 of the Schedule to the Statutes (as published
on 9 October 2002 in Supplement (1) to Gazette
No. 4633, pp. 139–140), delete existing section
14.4.(1) and substitute:
'14.4. (1) Only small landscape paintings painted during
the preceding twelve months shall be admissible as
entries.'
