GENERAL NOTICESCurators of the University LibrariesOxford University Library ServicesThe display describing proposals for a new automated book depository in the context of a longer-term estates strategy for the University Libraries, previously mounted for members of the University in the University Offices, can now be seen by all registered Bodleian readers in the foyer of the New Bodleian Library during library opening hours. The display will be on show until the meeting in Congregation on 15 November.

Professorship of SociologyJONATHAN GERSHUNY, FBA (B.SC. Loughborough, M.SC. Strathclyde, D.PHIL. Sussex), Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Social and Economic Research, University of Essex, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 1 October 2006.Professor Gershuny will be a fellow of St Hugh's College. Nuffield Laboratory of OphthalmologyThe Medical Sciences Board has assigned the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology to J.M. TIFFANY, MA (MA, PH.D.
