Committee on Statutes Before the Privy Council
Notice of proposed consent to amendment to the statutes of Exeter College
The Committee on Statutes before the Privy Council, acting under authority delegated to it by Council, is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendments to Statutes III, V and IX of Exeter College, approved by the Governing Body on 22 July 2005, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. The consent of the committee to the amendments to the Statutes will be effective eleven days after publication of this notice unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 7 August.
The effects of the amendments are to remove extend the range of persons eligible for appointment to a fellowship, to add two new scholarships and to remove outdated references.
Student Numbers Supplement
The annual Student Numbers Supplement to the Gazette, which is usually published in July, will this year be published at the beginning of Michaelmas Term. Publication has been delayed in order to improve the accuracy of the data and its consistency with previous years, following the transfer of data from the previous student record system (OASIS) to the new system (OSS), and also to improve the coverage of Continuing Education and Kellogg College students.

Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professorship of Developmental and Stem Cell Biology As Applied to Medicine
STEN EIRIK WAELGAARD JACOBSEN (MD, PH.D. Bergen), Professor, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Laboratory, Founding Director, Lund Strategic Research Center for Stem Cell Biology and Cell Therapy, Lund University and Senior Consultant Physician, Department of Hematology, Lund University Hospital, Sweden, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 1 July 2006.
Professor Jacobsen will be a fellow of St Cross College.
Professorship of Statistics in the Social Sciences
THOMAS AUGUSTINUS BENEDICTUS SNIJDERS (M.SC., PH.D. Groningen), Professor of Methodology and Statistics, Department of Sociology, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, has been appointed to the professorship on a half-time basis with effect from 1 October 2006.
Professor Snijders will be a fellow of Nuffield College.
George Eastman Visiting Professorship 2006–7
RONALD A. ROY (BS Maine, MS Mississippi, M.PHIL., PH.D. Yale), Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Boston University, has been appointed to the professorship for the academic year 2006–7.
Professor Roy will be a fellow of Balliol College.
Department of Chemistry
The Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Board has conferred the Headship of the Department of Chemistry upon PROFESSOR S.G. DAVIES, MA, D.PHIL., Waynflete Professor of Chemistry and Fellow of Magdalen College, for a period of five years from 1 July 2006.
