Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages
In association with St Catherine's College
The Magellan Prize, established in commemoration of the feats of the great sixteenth-century Portuguese navigator Fernando de Magalhães, will be awarded in each year to the best student beginning graduate studies in the University in the language, literature, culture, or history of the Portuguese-speaking world. The first Magellan Prize will be awarded to a student beginning graduate study in October 2006.
The value of the prize will be £3,000. The prize will be associated with a non-stipendiary graduate scholarship at St Catherine's College; the prizewinner will accordingly be required to be admitted as a member of the college. All applicants for graduate study in the relevant areas will be eligible for consideration, and no special application is required.
