Oxford University Newcomers' Club
The Club welcomes the wives, husbands and partners of visiting scholars, graduates and members of the University who are new to Oxford. It aims to offer help, advice and information, and the opportunity to meet others socially. Informal coffee mornings are held at 13 Norham Gardens every Wednesday 10.30 a.m.–12 noon except for two weeks at Christmas and Easter. Newcomers with children (0–4 years) meet every Friday in term 10.15 a.m.–12 noon. Other term-time activities include a Book Group, informal Conversation Group and tours to colleges, museums, and other places of interest, also country walks, garden trips and a visit to an antique centre. First Oxford Postdoc Network Poster meeting (organised by the University of Oxford Research Staff Society). Thurs., 13 July, from 4 p.m. onwards at St John's College, Garden quad reception room. This will be an informal session to encourage networking and collaboration among Contract Research Staff in the University of Oxford. Free drinks will be available to stimulate lively discussion. If you work in a discipline that does not usually use posters as a means of communication, you have complete artistic freedom to present yourself and your work within the poster dimensions, 1,200 x 900 mm. This could, for example, be an abstract and a photo of yourself, but it is completely up to you. The idea is that the posters will be a starting point for discussion. In this book Francis Warner looks back over the last half century in his two universities with gratitude. It takes the form of two poems, each describing a walk and the friends he meets and visits, or remembers: around Cambridge one night in winter, around Oxford one summer afternoon.
