Oxford University Library Services

Building work affecting Ouls libraries, Long Vacation 2006

Works planned for the Long Vacation 2006 include:

Bodleian Library

  • Replacing the Tower Lift in the Old Bodleian Library
  • Replacing the reader toilets in the Radcliffe Camera
  • Redecorating the Underground Bookstore, Radcliffe Camera

There will be some noise and minor disruption during these works. Readers are strongly advised to check the detailed information available at http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk for how services will be affected.

English Faculty Library

  • Replacing the lift

Note that that as a result of this work the English Faculty Library will be closed on Thursday, 6 July, and Friday, 7 July, and from Monday, 14 August to Friday, 8 September (one week more than the normal Long Vacation closure).

There will be significant noise and disruption during this work. Readers are strongly advised to check www.efl.ox.ac.uk for detailed guidance on the effects on services.

Radcliffe Science Library

  • Rewiring the Worthington Wing

Reading Rooms on Level 6 and 8 in the Worthington Wing will be closed for approximately 4 weeks in September to enable rewiring. Very limited access by staff only will be possible.

Large scale construction work entailing serious disruption will commence in October/November.

Readers are strongly advised to check www.ouls.ox.ac.uk/news/buildings/rslhooke for detailed guidance on the effects on services.


Radcliffe Science Library

Proposals to convert the Radcliffe Science Library and Hooke lending library into a combined reference and lending library will be on display from 1 May to 5 May in the Entrance Hall of the Radcliffe Science Library. On Tuesday, 2 May, there will be short presentations on the proposals at 1 p.m.., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Visitors to the display will be able to record their views and comments on suggestion sheets or by e-mail. The display boards will be set up the 28 April. The Radcliffe Science Library will be open on Bank Holiday Monday, 1 May.

The Medical Sciences Board has assigned the Department of Experimental Psychology to O.J. BRADDICK, MA (MD, PH.D. Cambridge), Fellow of Magdalen College and Professor of Psychology, for a period of four years from 1 October 2006.

The Medical Sciences Board has assigned the Department of Psychiatry to G.M. GOODWIN, BM, MA, D.PHIL., Fellow of Merton College and W.A. Handley Professor of Psychiatry, for a period of five years from 1 October 2006.
