GENERAL NOTICE

Museum of the History of Science

10/10 Day: Saturday, 3 December

A '10/10 Day' at the Museum of the History of Science is a Saturday when the Museum opens from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for a series of events on a theme. On 3 December the theme will be 'Star' (linked to the current exhibition on the astrolabe) and there will be talks, tours, trails, activities, displays, music, poetry, and film. A highlight will be a talk by Dr Allan Chapman on 'The Star of Bethlehem', while other subjects include pulsars, supernovae, starfish, film stars, star wars, and the Star Chamber.

APPOINTMENTS

Conferment of the title of Visiting Professor

The Medical Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor of Physiotherapy on S.E. LAMB, D.PHIL. (M.SC. Southampton), currently Director of the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit, Warwick Medical School, for three years from 1 December 2005.

Reconferment of the title of Visiting Professor

The Medical Sciences Board has reconferred the title of Visiting Professor of Developmental Biology and Genetics on S.D.M. BROWN (PH.D. Cambridge), currently Director of the Mammalian Genetics Unit at Harwell, for five years from 1 May 2006.

Recognition of Distinction

The following titles have been conferred by the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Recognition of Distinction Committee:

M.E. JONES, Department of Physics: Professor of Experimental Cosmology, with effect from 1 October 2005.

P.N. BURROWS, MA, D.PHIL., Professorial Research Fellow in the Department of Physics from a date to be determined: Professor of Accelerator Physics, with effect from his start date in post.

W. MATTLI (PH.D. Chicago), CUF Lecturer in Politics and Fellow of St John's: Professor of International Political Economy, with effect from 1 October 2005.
