COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITYChanges in RegulationsCouncil has made the following changes in regulations, to come into effect on 2 December.Membership of various committees1 In Council Regulations 15 of 2002, concerning committees reporting directly to Council (Supplement (1) to Gazette No. 4634, 16 October 2002, p. 226), delete existing regulation 3.66(1) and substitute:'(1) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources), who shall be chairman;'. 2 Ibid., delete existing regulation 3.46(1) and substitute: '(1) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources);'. 3 Ibid., delete existing regulation 3.75(1) and substitute: '(1) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources) who shall be chairman;'. 4 In Council Regulations 45 of 2002, concerning the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology (Gazette, Vol. 133, p. 512, amended on 22 January 2004), delete existing regulation 2.(1)(b) and substitute: '(1) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources);'. 5 In Council Regulations 49 of 2002, concerning the Pitt Rivers Museum (Gazette, Vol. 133, p. 514), delete existing regulation 3.(3) and substitute: '(3) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources);'. 6 In Council Regulations 48 of 2002, concerning the Oxford University Museum of Natural History (Gazette, Vol. 133, p. 513), delete existing regulation 2.(3) and substitute: '(3) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources);'. 7 In Council Regulations 5 of 2003, concerning the Museum of the History of Science (Gazette, Vol. 134, p. 138, amended on 5 May 2005), delete existing regulation 2.(3) and substitute: '(3) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources);'. 8 In Council Regulations 3 of 2003, concerning the Botanic Garden (Gazette, Vol. 134, p. 351), delete existing regulation 2.(2) and substitute: '(2) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources);'. 9 In Council Regulations 15 of 2002, concerning committees reporting directly to Council (Supplement (1) to Gazette No. 4634, 16 October 2002, p. 226), insert new regulation 3.75(2) as follows and renumber existing regulations 3.75(2)(23) as regulations 3.75(3)(24): '(2) a vice-chairman appointed by Council;'. 10 In Council Regulations 2 of 2004, concerning other University bodies (Supplement (2) to Gazette No. 4702, 30 June 2004, p. 1243), delete existing regulation 6.1(1) and substitute: '(1) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), or his or her nominee, who shall chair the committee;'.
[These changes amend the composition of various committees, following the
discontinuation of the post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services and University
Collections) and the transfer of general oversight of Academic Services and University
Collections to the portfolio of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources). The
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources) will replace the Pro-Vice-Chancellor
(Academic Services and University Collections) on the Curators of University Libraries, the
Information and Communication Technology Committee, the Committee for Museums and
Scientific Collections and the Boards of Visitors of the Ashmolean Museum, the Pitt Rivers
Museum, the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, the Museum of the History of
Science and the Botanic Garden. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources) will be
chairman of the Curators of University Libraries and also formal chairman of the Committee
for the Museums and Scientific Collections, with the assistance of an executive
vice-chairman. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) will be chair of the Committee for the
Language Centre. ]
CONGREGATION 15 November1 Declaration of approval of amended ResolutionRecognising the importance of the proposed book depository for the future delivery of library services in the University, and noting that there will be further reports to Congregation as later stages of the libraries' estates strategy are planned in detail, Congregation approves the allocation of the site at Osney Mead for the purpose of developing an automated depository for Oxford University Library Services, provided that the University undertakes to make available to the Library Services should need arise the adjacent land presently owned by the University, and not to alienate or otherwise dispose of that land.2 Declaration of approval of Resolutions authorising expenditure from the Higher Studies Fund(i) That the University be authorised to expend from that part of the Higher Studies Fund earmarked for Social Studies an extension of the existing grant of £15k per annum for a further and final three years from 2007 to 2010 for the purchase of Chinese books for the Bodleian. (ii) That the University be authorised to expend from that part of the Higher Studies Fund earmarked for Social Studies the sum of approximately £10k to enable the Bodleian to purchase The People's Daily in electronic format. (iii) That the University be authorised to expend from that part of the Higher Studies
Fund earmarked for Social Studies the sum of £125k over the two years 2006 and 2007
to provide research support for the incoming Professor of Educational Studies, Professor
Marsh.
