Oxford University Newcomers' Club
The Club welcomes the wives, husbands and partners of visiting scholars, graduates and members of the University who are new to Oxford. It aims to offer help, advice and information, and the opportunity to meet others socially. Informal coffee mornings are held at 13 Norham Gardens every Wednesday 10.30 a.m.12 noon except for two weeks at Christmas and Easter. Newcomers with children (04 years) meet every Friday in term 10.15 a.m.12 noon. Hindle, Wilson Lyon, OBE, died peacefully at home on 5 Feb. 2006. Beloved husband of Penny and father of Peter, Charlotte and Ralph. A dedicated educationist, decorated for his work in Sudan over 28 years, much loved by all for his wonderful character, empathy and expertise and sadly missed by family and friends. 'Flowers of the Floating World: Geisha and Courtesans in Japanese Prints and Photographs, 17721926'. Sanders of Oxford presents one of the first British exhibitions to explore the depiction of courtesans and geisha in both ukiyo-e and early photography. This broad survey, covering one and a half centuries of the visual culture of the demi- monde or ukiyo ('floating world'), includes important works from a rare 19th-century album formerly in the collection of Lord Hesketh, having been acquired by Sir Thomas George Fermor-Hesketh during a visit to Japan in the 1880s. Oxford v. Cambridge Boat Race
