GENERAL NOTICESTaylor InstitutionCleaning and maintenance work is now being carried out to the exterior of the Taylor Institution building in St Giles', involving the erection of scaffolding. The work is due for completion by 1 September. While work is being carried out on the façade, the Taylorian's main gates will remain closed, and access to the building is from Beaumont Street (up the steps into the Ashmolean/Bodleian courtyard; disabled access is via the Ashmolean ramp).
APPOINTMENTSConferments of the Title of Visiting ProfessorOn the recommendation of the Centre for Criminology, Faculty of Law, the Social Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Security Governance on PROFESSOR CLIFFORD SHEARING (MA, PH.D. Toronto), currently Director of the Institute of Criminology, University of Cape Town, for a period of three years from 1 October 2006 in the first instance. On the recommendation of the Centre for Criminology, Faculty of Law, the Social Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Criminology on PROFESSOR PAUL WILES (B.SC. London, DIP.CRIM. Cambridge), Chief Scientific Adviser, Home Office, and Director of the Research Development and Statistics Directorate, for a period of three years from 1 October 2006 in the first instance. On the recommendation of the Department of Economics, the Social Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Economics on DR S.M. FRIES, M.PHIL., D.PHIL. (B.SC. Pennysylvania), previously acting Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for the period 1 October 2006 to 30 September 2007.
