5 Continuing Education Board

Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare for Homeless People

With effect from 1 October 2006 (for first examination in 2007)

In Examination Regulations, 2005, p. 1060, after l. 6, insert:

'Provision of Healthcare to Homeless People

1. The Continuing Education Board in consultation with the Divisional Board of Medical Sciences, shall elect for the supervision of the course a standing committee, which shall have the power to arrange lectures and other instruction.

2. The course will consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars, classes and distance learning on the principles and practice of healthcare for homeless people. The course may be taken on a part-time basis over a period will shall normally be of one year's, and shall not exceed two years' duration.

3. The course will consist of six modules listed in the schedule below.

4. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:

(a) attendance at the classroom-based courses and active participation in all parts of the course to the satisfaction of the course director:

(b) an assignment that shall not exceed 2,000 words based on module one in the schedule below;

(c) a written report that shall not exceed 4,000 words based on modules two and three in the schedule below;

(d) a case study that shall not exceed 4,000 word based on modules four and five in the schedule below;

(e) two poster presentations based on module six in the schedule below.

The assignments under 4 (b)–(e) will be forwarded to the examiners c/o Registry, Department for Continuing Education, Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JA for consideration by such date as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.

5. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course of studies at the discretion of the examiners.

6. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the certificate.

7. The Standing Committee shall have the discretion to permit any candidate to be exempted from submitting one and one only of the written assignments under 4 (b)–(e), provided the standing committee is satisfied that such a candidate has undertaken equivalent study, of an appropriate standard, normally at another institution of higher education.

8. A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 4(b)–(e) above may normally be permitted to resubmit one written assignment and one only on one further occasion only, normally no later than one year after the initial failure.
