Members of Congregation are reminded that written notice of any intention to vote against any of the following resolutions, signed in each case by at least two members of Congregation, must be given to the Registrar (or in the case of proposal (8) to the Senior Proctor) by noon on Monday, 27 February (see the note on the conduct of business in Congregation at the end of 'University Agenda').

Voting on Resolutions approving the conferment of Honorary Degrees

(1) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, upon PROFESSOR RAANAN GILLON, BA (Philosophy), MB, BS, FRCP, HON. RCM, Emeritus Professor of Medical Ethics, Imperial College London, be approved.

(2) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, upon SIR JOHN HOUGHTON, CBE, MA, D.PHIL., FRS, Chairman of the John Ray Initiative connecting Environment, Science and Christianity, be approved.

(3) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, upon PROFESSOR DAME NANCY ROTHWELL, B.SC., PH.D., D.SC., FRS, F.MED.SCI., F.I.BIOL., FRSA, MRC Professor of Physiology, University of Manchester, be approved.

(4) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon PROFESSOR PETER BROWN, MA, FBA, F.R.HIST.S., Philip and Beulah Rollins Professor of History, Princeton University, be approved.

(5) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon PROFESSOR ALISON LURIE, Writer and Frederic J. Whiton Professor of American Literature Emerita, Cornell University, be approved.

(6) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon MR DEREK WALCOTT, OBE, FRSL, Poet and Playwright, be approved.

(7) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, upon MS MARINA WARNER, MA, FBA, FRSL, Writer and Critic, Professor of Literature, University of Essex, be approved.

(8) That the conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Civil Law, honoris causa, upon MR DAVID HOLMES, MA, Fellow of St John's College and Honorary Fellow of Merton College, Registrar of the University 1998–2006, be approved.

¶ If the resolutions are approved, the honorary degrees will be conferred at the Encaenia on 21 June 2006.
