COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITYAppointment of ProctorAs All Souls College was not able to identify a candidate for election as Proctor for the proctorial year 2006--7, it has fallen to the Vice-Chancellor to make an appointment in accordance with regulation 14 (3) of Council Regulations 21 of 2002. Following consultation, S.J. GOSS, MA, D.PHIL., Fellow of Wadham College, has been duly appointed as Proctor for the proctorial year 2006--7.

GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE OF COUNCILChanges in regulationsThe General Purposes Committee of Council has made the following change in regulations, to come into effect on 1 July.Jill Hart Trust for Indo-Iranian PhilologyIn Part 2 of Council regulations 25 of 2002, concerning trusts (Statutes, 2000, p. 661 as redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, Gazette, Vol. 132, p. 1461), insert new § 166 as follows:'§ 166. Jill Hart Trust for Indo-Iranian Philology1. The bequest from the late Gillian R. Hart ('Jill Hart'), together with any further donations for this purpose, shall be known as the Jill Hart Fund for Indo-Iranian Philology. 2. The University shall retain all of the Fund as a permanent endowment and shall apply the net income of the Fund towards the object of the Fund, which shall be to support elementary language teaching and learning, and philological teaching and study, of Vedic Sanskrit and of the languages belonging to the Iranian branch of Indo-European at their earliest attested stages; and to support the study of the early linguistic history and prehistory of the Indo-Iranian language family. 3. The administration of the Fund, and the application of its income, shall be the responsibility of the Board of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. 4. The board of management shall apply the net income of the Fund in furtherance of the object as specified in paragraph 2 but any unspent income may be carried forward for use in subsequent years. 5. These regulations may be amended by Council provided the object as specified in paragraph 2 is kept in view.'
[This change, made on the recommendation of the Humanities Board, establishes the
Jill Hart Trust for Indo-Iranian Philology to support language teaching and learning in the
Faculty of Oriental Studies. ]
