Oxford University Gazette, 10 March 2005: Appointments

ORIEL COLLEGE

Fellowship in Clinical Medicine

Oriel College wishes to appoint a fellow in Clinical Medicine with effect from September 2005. The fellow will have overall responsibility for clinical students at Oriel. He/she will be involved in their admission (with the medical tutor), will be responsible for overseeing and reporting to the college on their academic progress, and will offer them pastoral care. He/she will take part in the admission of pre-clinical students to Oriel and will help with liaison with schools.

It is envisaged that the successful applicant will be a senior, active clinician with a permanent or long-term post in Oxford. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance and will be renewable. Although there are no restrictions on the specialism of candidates, the college has a preference for a clinician specialising in general surgery or medicine. The fellow will not be a member of governing body but will be a full member of the SCR with full (free) lunch and dining rights. The fellow will be given a research allowance and will have access to a room in college.

For further informal information contact the Medical Tutor, Dr Gordon MacPherson (e-mail: gordon.macpherson@path.ox.ac.uk, telephone: Oxford (2)75584/(2)76572).

Applications, including a curriculum vitae (six copies), should be sent Mrs Yvonne Scott, Academic Registrar, Oriel College (e-mail: yvonne.scott@oriel.ox.ac.uk). Applicants should nominate a referee who is able to comment on their teaching (a student they have taught would be appropriate). The referee should be asked to send their reference directly to Mrs Scott at Oriel. The deadline for receipt of applications and references is Friday, 15 April. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed in early May.
