GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL

Changes in Regulations

The General Purposes Committee of Council has made the following changes in regulations, to come into effect on 25 March.

(a) Malcolm Green Lecture

In Part 2 of Council Regulations 25 of 2002, concerning trusts (Statutes, 2000, p. 675, as redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, and renumbered by Decree (2) of 10 May 2001, Decree (2) of 7 June 2001 and the changes published on 27 May 2004, Gazette, Vol. 132, p. 1461; Vol. 131, p.976, Vol. 131, p. 1114, Vol. 134, p.1102), insert new § 224 as follows, and renumber existing §§ 224–59 (pp. 675–704) as §§ 225–60:

'§ 224. Malcolm Green Lecture

1. The sum contributed by friends, colleagues, and former students of Professor MLH Green, together with any further donations for this purpose, shall be known as the Green Lecture Fund ('the Fund').

2. The University shall retain all of the Fund as permanent endowment and shall apply the net income of the Fund towards an occasional or annual lecture to commemorate Professor Green in such ways as may be determined by the University on the recommendation of the Department of Chemistry ('the Objects').

3. (1) The administration of the Fund and the application of its income shall be the responsibility of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Board, which shall appoint a board of electors with delegated authority to discharge this responsibility on its behalf.

(2) The frequency and subject of the lectures, and appointment of the lecturer, shall be determined by the board of electors.

4. Regulation 3 above may be amended by Council.'

[This change in regulations, made on the recommendation of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Board, establishes a fund with monies raised by friends, colleagues, and students of Professor Malcolm Green, FRS, former Head of the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, to support an occasional or annual lecture in his name.]

(b) R.J.P. Williams Visiting Lecturers

In Part 2 of Council Regulations 25 of 2002, concerning trusts (Statutes, 2000, p. 750, as redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, and renumbered by Decree (3) of 7 June 2001 and the changes published on 14 November 2002, Gazette, Vol. 132, p. 1461; Vol. 131, p. 1114; Vol. 133, p. 404), insert new § 376 as follows, and renumber existing §§ 376–86 (pp. 750–7) as §§ 377–87:

'§ 376. R.J.P. Williams Visiting Lecturers

1. The sum contributed by Professor R.J.P. Williams, together with any further donations for this purpose, shall be known as the Williams Visiting Lecturers Fund ('the Fund').

2. The University shall retain all of the Fund as permanent endowment and shall apply the net income of the Fund for the support of visiting lecturers in Inorganic Chemistry to commemorate Professor Williams in such ways as may be determined by the University on the recommendation of the Department of Chemistry ('the Objects').

3. (1) The administration of the Fund and the application of its income shall be the responsibility of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Board, which shall appoint a board of electors with delegated authority to discharge this responsibility on its behalf.

(2) The frequency and subject of the lectures, the appointment of and support for the visiting lecturers, shall be determined by the board of electors.

4. Regulation 3 above may be amended by Council.'
