COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITY

Notice of Proposed Consent to amendments to the Statutes of Templeton College

Council is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendments to the Charter and to Statutes II, III, IV, VI, VIII, IX and X of Templeton College as approved by the Governing Body on 5 February 2004, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. This consent will be effective unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 1 March.

The effects of the amendments are to change the corporate name of the college; to replace the President with a Dean and Head of College; to provide for the appointment of an independent chair of the Governing Body; to create a further category of Fellows; to clarify the duties of officers of the college; and to provide for consequential amendments.

COMMITTEE ON STATUTES BEFORE THE PRIVY COUNCIL

1 Notice of Proposed Consent to amendments to the Statutes of St Catherine's College

The Committee on Statutes before the Privy Council, acting under authority delegated to it by Council, is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendments to Statutes I, VI, VII, IX and XII of St Catherine's College as approved by the Governing Body on 3 December 2003, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. This consent will be effective unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 1 March.

The effects of the amendments are to incorporate the provisions of Statute XII into Statute I and provide for consequent renumbering; to amend the provisions governing the eligibility to Emeritus professorships, to clarify provisions relating to incapacity and other provisions relating to officers; and to include provisions relating to the making of bylaws.

2 Notice of Proposed Consent to amendment to the Statutes of Magdalen College

The Committee on Statutes before the Privy Council, acting under authority delegated to it by Council, is minded to give consent on behalf of the University to the amendment to Statute IV of Magdalen College as approved by the Governing Body on 15 October 2003, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923. This consent will be effective unless written notice of a resolution, signed by at least twenty members of Congregation, calling upon Council to withhold that consent, has been given to the Registrar by noon on Monday, 1 March.

The effect of the amendment is to increase the number of Waynflete Fellows.

APPOINTMENTS

CONFERMENTS OF TITLE

The Mathematical and Physical Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Mathematics upon PROFESSOR L. MAHADEVAN, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Harvard University, for a period of three years from 1 February 2004.

The Mathematical and Physical Sciences Board has conferred the title of Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in the Principles of Engineering Design upon DR PETER BROUGHTON, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, for a period of three years from 1 February 2004.
