BRASENOSE COLLEGE

Stipendiary Lecturership in Classical Languages and Literature

Brasenose College proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer for two years from 1 October 2004. The duties of the Lecturer are to provide an average of twelve hours per week tutorial teaching to undergraduates for the twenty-four weeks of the academic year and to assist in the pastoral care of these students. The stipend, which will be pensionable within USS, will be on the scale recommended by the Committee of Senior Tutors and will depend on qualifications and experience, with a current minimum of £17,839. In addition the lecturer will be entitled to free meals at the common table during weeks nought to nine of Full Term, and an entertainment allowance for entertaining students.

The person appointed will work in collaboration with the college's Fellows in Ancient History (Dr Edward Bispham) and Philosophy (Mr John Foster). Applicants should be competent to teach a number of the principal options available within the Faculty of Classics at the First and Second Public Examinations in Literae Humaniores. Golding Fellowships

Brasenose College invites applications for one Senior and one Junior William Golding Fellowship in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The fellowships are open to suitably qualified postdoctoral researchers who are carrying out research in any branch of Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences in Oxford, either in the University or in a research institute associated with the University.

The fellowships are non-stipendiary, but include membership of the senior common room with free lunches and dinners, and research and entertainment allowances. Fellows are required to have a salaried post with a tenure of at least twelve months from the date of taking up the fellowship. The Senior Fellowship will run from 1 October 2004 for five years in the first instance but may be renewed at intervals thereafter provided the fellow continues to hold a salaried post. The Junior Fellowship will start on 1 October 2004 and, provided the fellow continues to hold a salaried post, will last for three years. Fellows will be encouraged, but not required, to undertake paid teaching of up to six hours a week and to participate in the life of the college. Neither fellowship may be held in conjunction with a fellowship at another Oxford college.

Applications, including the names and addresses of three referees, should be addressed to the Principal (from whom further particulars are available), and should be accompanied by a full curriculum vitae, together with an outline, not exceeding 1,000 words, explaining in non-technical language the significance of the applicant's research. The deadline for applications is 12 March.


Kurti Fellowships

Brasenose College invites applications for one Senior and one Junior Nicholas Kurti Fellowship in Science. The fellowships are open to suitably qualified postdoctoral researchers who are carrying out research in any branch of science in Oxford, either in the University or in a research institute associated with the University. The fellowships are non-stipendiary, but include membership of the senior common room with free lunches and dinners, and research and entertainment allowances. Senior Germaine Scholarship

Brasenose College proposes to offer up to two Senior Germaine Scholarships for October 2004, in Medicine and/or Biological Sciences. The duration of the awards will be one year plus a maximum of a further two years. The value of the scholarships is £2,000 per annum. In the event that the scholars elected are in receipt of full research grant funding (fees and maintenance) the emolument will be £250 per annum. In addition the scholarships offer limited dining rights at high table and the guarantee of college accommodation in the graduate annexe at St Cross for the first year of the course (at the normal charge). The scholarships are restricted to Home/EU applicants.

Candidates must normally be under the age of twenty-seven and graduates of a university or other institution of equivalent standing, or be expected to graduate by 1 October 2004. Candidates must be registered for a graduate degree at Oxford University.
