Changes in Regulations

The Planning and Resource Allocation Committee of Council has made the following changes in regulations, to come into effect with effect on 30 July 2004.

Establishment of a Professorship of Educational Studies

1 In Council Regulations 24 of 2002, Ch. VII, Sect. I § 5. B. SCHEDULE A, concerning professorships (Statutes, 2000, p. 379, as amended by Decree (3) of 8 March 2002, Gazette, Vol. 131, p. 717, and subsequently redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, Vol. 132, p. 1461), after `Sir John Hicks Professor of Economics' delete:

`Professor of Educational Studies', and insert:

`Professors (three) of Educational Studies'.

`§ 65 Professors (three) of Educational Studies

1. There shall be three Professors of Educational Studies who shall engage in advanced study and research and shall lecture and give instruction in Educational Studies.

2. The professors shall each be elected by an electoral board consisting of:

(1) the Vice-Chancellor, or, if the head of the college specified in (2) of this clause is Vice-Chancellor, a person appointed by Council;

(2) the head of the college to which the professorship shall be for the time being allocated by Council under any decree in that behalf, or if the head is unable or unwilling to act, a person appointed by the governing body of the college;

(3) a person appointed by the governing body of the college specified in (2) of this clause;

(4)–(5) two persons appointed by Council;

(6) a person appointed by the Social Sciences Board;

(7)–(9) three persons appointed by the Academic Committee of the Department of Educational Studies.

If an appointment is also being made to the directorship of the department, Council will appoint only one member of the electoral board, and one member will be the chairman of the department's professional committee or a head teacher proposed by the Oxfordshire Secondary Head Teachers' Association.

4. The professors shall be subject to the General Provisions of the decree concerning the duties of professors and to those Particular Provisions of the same decree which are applicable to these chairs.

[These changes, made by the Planning and Resource Allocation Committee on the recommendation of the Social Sciences Board, establish a third Professorship of Educational Studies and slightly modify the regulations governing the first two professorships in order to reflect arrangements for the directorship and to introduce standardisation.]
