Changes in Regulations

The Planning and Resource Allocation Committee of Council has made the following changes in regulations, to come into effect on 15 August.

Establishment of Professorship of Radiation Biology

1 In SCHEDULE A to Sect. I, § 5. B of Council Regulations 24 of 2002, concerning professorships (Statutes, 2000, p. 379, as redesignated as regulations by Decree (5) of 11 July 2002, and amended by the changes in regulations published on 31 October 2002 and on 19 June 2003, Gazette, Vol. 132, p. 1461; Vol. 133, pp. 353, 1429), after `Brownlee-Abraham Professor of Molecular Biology' insert:

`Professor of Radiation Biology'.

2 Ibid., Sect. III, concerning particular professorships (Statutes, 2000, p. 403, as redesignated), insert new § 30 as follows and renumber existing §§ 30--50 as §§ 31--51:

`§ 30. Professor of Radiation Biology

1. The Professor of Radiation Biology shall undertake research in Radiation Biology and shall lecture and give instruction in this subject.

2. The professor shall be elected by an electoral board consisting of:

(1) the Vice-Chancellor, or, if the head of the college specified in paragraph (2) below is Vice-Chancellor, a person appointed by Council;

(2) the head of the college to which the professorship shall be allocated by Council for the time being under any regulation in that behalf, or, if the head is unable or unwilling to act, a person appointed by the governing body of the college;

(3) a person appointed by the governing body of the college specified in paragraph (2) above;

(4), (5) two persons appointed by Council;

(6)–(9) four persons appointed by the Medical Sciences Board;

(10) a person appointed by the body or bodies which may issue an honorary clinical contract or contracts to the professor.

3. The professor shall be subject to the General Provisions of the regulations concerning the duties of professors and to those Particular Provisions of the same regulations which are applicable to this chair.'

[These changes, made on the recommendation of the Medical Sciences Board, establish a new Professorship of Radiation Biology.]
