REGIUS PROFESSORSHIP OF DIVINITY

Her Majesty The Queen has appointed MARILYN MCCORD ADAMS (AB Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, PH.D. Cornell, TH.M. Princeton Theological Seminary), Horace Pitkin Chair of Historical Theology, Yale Divinity School and Department of Religious Studies, to the Regius Professorship of Divinity with effect from 1 January 2004.

Professor McCord Adams will be a Canon of Christ Church.

REGIUS PROFESSORSHIP OF GREEK

Her Majesty The Queen has appointed CHRISTOPHER BRENDAN REGINALD PELLING, MA, D.PHIL., McConnell-Laing Fellow of University College, and University Lecturer (CUF) in Classical Languages, to the Regius Professorship of Greek with effect from 1 October 2003.

Dr Pelling will be a Student of Christ Church.

PROFESSORSHIP OF EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS

BRIAN FOSTER, OBE, D.PHIL. (BA London), Professor of Experimental Physics and Head of Particle Physics Group, University of Bristol, and Chairman, European Committee for Future Accelerators, has been appointed to the professorship with effect from 1 October 2003. Professor Foster will be a fellow of Balliol College.

HEADSHIP OF THE LIFE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES DIVISION

Council has appointed NIGEL JOHN THRIFT (BA University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, Ph.D, D.Sc. Bristol), Professor, Department of Geography, University of Bristol, as Head of the Life and Environmental Sciences Division for five years with effect from 1 October 2003.

The Mathematical and Physical Sciences Board has conferred the title of Visiting Professor in Engineering Science upon PROFESSOR STEPHAN JEFFERIS, MA, M.ENG., M.SC. PH.D., for a period of three years from 1 June 2003.
