GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL

Change in Regulations

The General Purposes Committee of Council has made the following change in regulations, to come into effect on 28 March.

Committee for the Council Departments

In Part 3 of Council Regulations 15 of 2002, concerning Committees reporting directly to Council or one of its Main Committees (Supplement (1) to Gazette No. 4634, 16 October 2002, p. 233), insert new regulations 3.34--3.36 as follows and renumber existing regulations 3.34--3.102 (pp. 234--40, as renumbered by the changes published on 31 October 2002, p. 352) as regulations 3.37--3.105:

`Committee for the Council Departments

3.34. The Committee for the Council Departments shall consist of:

(1) a chairman who shall be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor;

(2) the Assessor;

(3) the immediately previous Assessor;

(4), (5) two persons appointed by the General Purposes Committee of Couoncil from among the members of Council. 3.35. The committee shall have power to co-opt one additional member for such periods as it sees fit.

3.36. The committee shall:

(1) allocate funding to the departments within the Council Departments sector (the departments falling within that sector to be such as are agreed by the General Purposes Committee of Council), and satisfy itself that effective use is being made of these resources;

(2) bid for resources as part of the annual budget exercise (justifying any proposed increase, but on the understanding that such increases will be treated as part of the sector's block grant and therefore for disbursement as the committee considers appropriate).'

[This change provides formal legislation for the Committee for the Council Departments in the light of its increased budgetary responsibilities.]

2 Declaration of approval of change in Congregation Regulations: Religious Services and Sermons

No notice of opposition having been given, Mr Vice-Chancellor declared the change in Congregation Regulations concerning Religious Services and Sermons approved.

3 Presentation of the Annual Review of the University

The Annual Review of the University for 2001–2 (Supplement *2 to Gazette Vol. 133, January 2003) was presented.
