NEWTON–ABRAHAM STUDENTSHIP IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2003

Applications are invited for an award for postgraduate study in Biological Science tenable at the University from the beginning of Michaelmas Term 2003. Candidates wishing to apply must normally have been accepted for admission for postgraduate study in one of the following departments: Biochemistry, Plant Sciences, and Zoology.

It is a condition of the award that the studentship be held at Lincoln College. The maintenance grant is, at present, of the same value as those offered by the MRC (for 2002--3 it is expected to be £10,000 per annum, although this will be kept under review and changes made as necessary in line with government recommendations on the national minimum stipend for graduate students). The studentship will pay all college and university fees at the rates for `home' or for overseas students.

The studentship is tenable for three years. Applications must be submitted to the departments by Monday, 17 February.

Further details and application forms are available from Mrs J. Brown, Life and Environmental Sciences Divisional Office, 2 South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3UB (telephone: Oxford (2)82464, e- mail: judith.brown@admin.ox.ac.uk).

CHRISTOPHER WELCH SCHOLARSHIP IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2003

Applications are invited for an award for postgraduate research in Biology tenable at the University from the beginning of Michaelmas Term 2003.

The scholarship is, at present, of the same value as those offered by the MRC plus £1,000, and will include payment of fees at the rate for `home' students. It is tenable for two years but may be extended for a third year.

The Board of Management has the power to suspend an award held by a medical student for a period of not more than three years, or in special cases four years, in order to enable the holder to devote himself/herself to clinical training without forfeiting his/her award.

Previous award holders are ineligible. Candidates wishing to apply must have been accepted for admission for postgraduate study, normally in one of the following departments: Biochemistry, Experimental Psychology, Human Anatomy, the Dunn School of Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Plant Sciences, Zoology, or by one of the Clinical School Departments. Applications must be submitted to the departments by those hoping to work in the Clinical School by Monday, 20 January, and, by those hoping to work in other departments, by Monday, 17 February.

Applicants who have been accepted for postgraduate study in Biology by departments not listed here should send their applications direct to the Secretary, the Christopher Welch Fund, at the address given below, by Monday, 17 February. Their forms should be countersigned by the head of the department in which they hope to work.

Further details and application forms are available from Mrs J. Brown, Life and Environmental Sciences Divisional Office, 2 South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3UB (telephone: Oxford (2)82464, e- mail: judith.brown@admin.ox.ac.uk).
