Volunteers Need for Type II Diabetes Study

Would you be willing to assist with a clinical study aimed at type II diabetes (not insulin dependent)? We are looking to see if heart and/or skeletal muscle are damaged by diabetes and, if so, can treatment help. We need people with type II diabetes for a study at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The study would involve 2 visits to the hospital each lasting about 3--4 hours. All tests will be non-invasive, painless and without any risk or side effects. We would reimburse expenses for refreshments and travel or we could organise transport. For further details please phone Dr Scheuermann-Freestone, Magnetic Resonance Unit, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford OX3 9DU, or e-mail: mscheuer@bioch.ox.ac.uk.

Also of current interest are the nesting tubes for mason bees, while Heather Angel's book Natural Visions and a selection of cards and prints relate to her photographic exhibition running 23 May--31 July. Oxford University Research Staff Society

The Research Staff Society (RSS) membership consists of Post-doctoral/Junior Research Fellows and Research Assistants who work for the University of Oxford. As most Research Staff are not attached to a college and may be new to Oxford our social events provide a unique opportunity to meet researchers outside your group or department. We aim to provide an interesting and varying social setting in which to mix and to become a voice for research staff within the University. We run social events each month to suit all tastes. Please visit our Web site http://users.ox.ac.uk/~rss/, which provides information on how to join the society as well as details on events which we will be running in the near future.
