Research Readerships and Senior Research Fellowships

Details were released in late July of the 2001 call for applications for the Research Readership and Senior Research Fellowship schemes of the British Academy.

These awards are aimed at established academics in the humanities and social sciences who need time to concentrate on a major piece of research. Awards allow the successful candidates to undertake or to complete an approved programme of sustained research, while relieved of their normal teaching and administrative commitments. Research Readerships are tenable for two years; Senior Research Fellowships are tenable for one year.

Details of this new scheme have also been advertised on the RSO's weekly web-based research funding bulletin `electronic Research Funding News', available at the following Web site:

Application forms and further details are available from the British Academy Web site at:

Potential applicants should approach their respective faculty board and divisional board (as well as their college), in line with Personnel Services' leave guidelines. They should also consult the secretary of their divisional board at the earliest opportunity. As with all university research-related applications, completed application forms for funding under this scheme would need to be endorsed on behalf of the University by the Research Services Office (RSO). The deadline for applications for the British Academy's Readership and Fellowship schemes is 31 October 2001, and the RSO would ask to receive the forms for signature by 24 October 2001.
