MAGDALEN COLLEGE

Tutorial Fellowship in English

Magdalen College proposes to elect, with effect from 1 October 2002, a Fellow and Tutor in English, with special interest in English Literature from 1780 to the present. The fellowship is tenable with a titular university lecturership (CUF) which, it is expected, will be converted in due course into a stipendiary university post. The combined salary will be according to age on a scale up to £41,570 per annum. Additional college allowances are available.

Stipendiary Lecturership in Modern European History

In association with the Faculty of Modern History

Magdalen College, in association with the Faculty of Modern History, invites applications for a Stipendiary Lecturer to teach nineteenth- and twentieth-century European history for the academic year 2002–3, to replace Dr Nick Stargardt who will be on leave as a British Academy Senior Research Fellow for that year.

The stipend payable is on the scale £17,625–£20,470, depending on qualifications and experience, and the appointment is not renewable. The lecturer will be required to undertake up to twelve hours per week of tutorial teaching for Magdalen College and sixteen hours per year of lectures or classes for the Faculty of Modern History. Applications in all fields of nineteenth- and twentieth-century European history are welcomed and applicants should hold, or be about to be awarded, a doctoral degree. Stipendiary Lecturership in Pure Mathematics

Magdalen College seeks to appoint a twelve-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Pure Mathematics for the academic year 2002–3. The college may offer renewal of the contract for one more year.

The lecturer will be required to teach a selection of first- and second-year Pure Mathematics papers, and to contribute some section b classes to the intercollegiate class scheme. The lecturer will also be expected to assist with entrance interviewing. The annual stipend is £17,625 (currently under review).

Applications should contain a curriculum vitae, a letter stating which parts of the Mathematics syllabus the candidate has taught and is prepared to teach, and a brief description of research interests.
