Oxford University Gazette, 11 July 2002: Appointments

PEMBROKE COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE

Keith Sykes Research Fellowship in Italian Studies

Pembroke College welcomes applications from scholars with interests in any aspect of Italian culture from the age of Dante to the present: relevant disciplines may include Italian language and literature, music, history, and art history. Candidates may be men or women and should have recently completed, or be about to complete, a doctoral degree. The tenure of the fellowship will be for five years. The holder will be encouraged to do a limited amount of teaching for the college, but would require the permission of the governing body to undertake other paid work. The stipend will be in the range of £16,624, adjusted to account for any increases between now and 1 October 2003. Depending on whether the successful candidate chooses to live in or out of college, he or she will be provided with a set of rooms or a study and, if still a registered Graduate Student, substantial assistance towards payment of college and university fees.

Applications (two copies) should reach the Senior Tutor's Secretary, Pembroke College, Cambridge CB2 1RF, by midday on 6 September, and should include the following information:
(a) the usual particulars, and a short account of the applicant's academic record and career so far, including a note of any other appointments for which applications are being made;
(b) an explanation of the nature of the applicant's research in about 1,000 words of non-technical language, together with a statement of published and unpublished work (the work itself should be available to the electors by mid-October but should not be sent until requested);
(c) the names of two persons well acquainted with the applicant personally and academically who have agreed to write in support of the application.

Applications should only be made on forms obtainable from the Senior Tutor's Secretary, Pembroke College, Cambridge CB2 1RF (e-mail: pat.whitby@pem.cam.ac.uk), and online at http://www.pem.cam.ac.uk/jobs.

All requested material may be sent by e-mail but a signed copy of the application form, in its original two-page format, must also be submitted by post. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The college hopes to elect to the fellowship not later than 1 January 2003, with tenure from 1 October 2003.
