COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITY

1 Decrees

Council has made the following decrees, to come into effect on 24 May.

Decree (1): Repeal of certain Examination Decrees

Decree (2): New Examination Regulations

Explanatory note to Decrees (1) and (2)

The new University Statutes will come into effect on 1 October 2002. Under those statutes Council will no longer make decrees to enact secondary legislation, and all such legislation will take the form of regulations. Council has already enacted some new regulations to replace the existing general decrees at the beginning of Examination Decrees, 2001 (see Supplement (1) to Gazette No. 4621, 8 May 2002, p. 1139), and Decree (1) below formally repeals the existing decrees which these new regulations will replace. The exigencies of the timetable for the publication of the successor volume, Examination Regulations, 2002, however, mean that it is necessary for Council to re-enact much of the existing material in Examination Decrees, 2001 as regulations without otherwise changing them for 2002--3. Decree (2) below provides accordingly. It is intended that there should be a more radical revision of examination legislation during the course of that academic year.

Text of Decree (1)

1 In Examination Decrees, 2001, delete from p. 12, l. 1 to p. 27, l. 18, from p. 115, l. 12 to p. 124, l. 45, and from p. 479, l. 1 to p. 480, l. 8.

2 This decree shall be effective from 1 October 2002.

Text of Decree (2)

1 Each of the decrees governing university examinations and related matters which is in effect on 30 September 2002, and which has not been replaced by that date by new regulations made by Council (or by another body or a person authorised by Council) to take effect from 1 October 2002, shall constitute the corresponding regulations governing university examinations and related matters with effect from 1 October 2002 unless and until it is replaced by regulations subsequently made by Council (or by another body or a person authorised by Council).

2 Any cross-reference to any such decree in the decrees and regulations which are in effect on 30 September 2002, and which have not been replaced by that date by new regulations to take effect from 1 October 2002, shall be deemed with effect from 1 October 2002 to be a cross-reference to the corresponding regulation as enacted by Council (or by another body or a person authorised by Council) or by clause 1 above.
