LINCOLN COLLEGE

Appointment of Steward

Applications are invited for the position of Steward at Lincoln College.

Lincoln College is a community of some forty fellows and tutors, approximately 400 undergraduate and postgraduate students and a domestic and administrative staff of eighty. The majority of college facilities are located in and around the central Oxford site in Turl Street and the High Street, with additional accommodation in other parts of Oxford.

The Steward at Lincoln reports to the College Bursar and is responsible for the management of the college's domestic functions. These include accommodation, catering, cleaning, and the organisation of laundry and related services. The Steward has responsibility for the selection, employment and management of all domestic staff, including input into training programmes and the maintenance of some staff records.

An additional, and important, area of responsibility for the Steward is the management and development of the college's conference and holiday letting businesses. Lincoln provides high-quality accommodation, catering and meeting facilities for conferences, and the college is seeking to appoint to the position of Steward an individual who can exploit these opportunities to the full.

The successful applicant will have experience of managing the domestic operations of a medium-sized institution and the associated staff. In addition the successful candidate is likely to have had experience of developing an accommodation and/or conferencing business, in the context, perhaps, of an educational establishment or in a hotel environment (or similar). A readiness to work within the structures and traditions of the collegiate university, a sympathy with the objectives of an educational establishment, and a commitment to the successful functioning of a small but complex community are also requirements of this post.

The salary for this position will be in the region £30,000–£35,000. Benefits include full contributory pension, health-care insurance, six weeks' holiday per annum, and lunch provided by the college.

To apply please send a detailed curriculum vitae and the names of two referees to Mr Tim Knowles, Bursar, Lincoln College, Oxford OX1 3DR. The closing date for the receipt of applications is 9 February.

Appointment of Surveyor

Applications are invited for the position of Surveyor at Lincoln College. Lincoln is located in the heart of Oxford, centred on the main College site in Turl Street. The college buildings date from the fifteenth century and are subject to the usual regulations concerning the preservation of buildings of historical importance. The college also owns other properties elsewhere in Oxford for student accommodation and for sporting activities. In addition the college has a portfolio of properties in London and southern England, primarily for investment purposes.

The College Surveyor reports to the Bursar of the College and is responsible for management of a programme of works to maintain and enhance the fabric of all the college's properties; oversight of specific development projects undertaken by the college, including (where appropriate) proper liaison with external architects and contractors; day-to-day management of an in-house team of craftsmen; implementation of a health and safety regime consistent with legislative requirements.

The successful applicant will have experience of managing building projects and maintenance programmes, including management of both budgets and staff. In addition he or she will have experience of health and safety implementation. Some experience in working in older buildings is essential.

A recognised qualification (as a surveyor, quantity surveyor, architect or similar) would be preferred. The college is a close-knit community of academic and domestic staff and students, and the new appointee will have to demonstrate an aptitude for teamwork. A competitive salary is offered for this position. Additional benefits include full contributory pension, health-care insurance, six weeks' holiday per annum, and lunch provided by the college.

To apply please send a detailed curriculum vitae (including salary information) and the names of two referees to Mr Tim Knowles, Bursar, Lincoln College, Oxford OX1 3DR. The closing date for receipt of applications is 14 February.
