SOCIAL SCIENCES BOARD

Decree

The Social Sciences Board has made the following decree, to come into effect on 29 June.

Decree (1): Changes in Electoral Boards for the Professorships of Management Studies

Explanatory note

The following decree, made by the Social Sciences Board, alters the membership of the Electoral Boards for the Professorships of Management Studies in accordance with the recent changes in governance.

Text of Decree (1)

In Ch. VII, Sect. III, § 192 (Statutes, 2000, p. 458), delete cll. 2 and 3 and substitute: `2. The first professor shall be elected by an electoral board consisting of:

(1) the Vice-Chancellor, or, if the President of Templeton College is Vice-Chancellor, a person appointed by Council;

(2) the President of Templeton College, or, if the President is unable or unwilling to act, a person appointed by the Governing Body of Templeton College;

(3) a person appointed by the Governing Body of Templeton College;

(4), (5) two persons appointed by Council;

(6) a person appointed by the Social Sciences Board;

(7)–(9) three persons appointed by the Executive Committee of the Saïd Business School.

3. The second professor shall be elected by an electoral board consisting of:

(1) the Vice-Chancellor, or, if the Principal of St Edmund Hall is Vice-Chancellor, a person appointed by Council;

(2) the Principal of St Edmund Hall, or, if the Principal is unable or unwilling to act, a person appointed by the Governing Body of St Edmund Hall;

(3) a person appointed by the Governing Body of St Edmund Hall;

(4), (5) two persons appointed by Council;

(6) a person appointed by the Social Sciences Board;

(7)–(9) three persons appointed by the Executive Committee of the Saïd Business School.'

CONGREGATION 9 June

Conferment of Honorary Degree

The Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, approved by Resolution of Congregation on 7 March 2000, was conferred upon SIR AARON KLUG, OM (B.SC. Witwatersrand; M.SC. Cape Town; PH.D., SC.D. Cambridge), FRS, Honorary Fellow of Peterhouse and of Trinity College, Cambridge, Past President of the Royal Society, formerly Director of the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge.

CONGREGATION 12 June

Promulgation of Statute

A form of Statute was promulgated. No notice of opposition having been given, Mr Vice- Chancellor declared the preamble carried of the proposed Statute concerning the University's Intellectual Property Policy.
