£25 million business and science park opened by Minister for Science : The future of academic research working alongside industrial laboratories and fledgling high-tech companies was witnessed by the Science and Innovation Minister, Lord Sainsbury, when he opened the Begbroke Business and Science Park on Friday, 16 June.

Academics knighted in Birthday Honours : Her Majesty's Birthday Honours, announced on 17 June, included awards recognising academic and research excellence by Oxford figures.

Oxford research featured at Royal Society exhibition : University representatives displayed three exhibits at the Royal Society's New Frontiers in Science Exhibition in London this week, which opened on Tuesday, 20 June, and ran until Thursday, 22 June.

`Turner's Oxford' at Ashmolean : The Ashmolean Museum is hosting a major loan exhibition, `Turner's Oxford', from 20 June to 1 September, sponsored by Coutts & Co, and Darbys, Mallam, Lewis Solicitors.

New Council nominations : Gillian Shephard, MP, and Sir Victor Blank have been nominated as the two `external' members of the new Council of the University, subject to approval by Congregation on 4 and 11 July.

Funding for locust research : The BBSRC has funded a £240,000 project into swarming in locusts.
