Degree by Special Resolution

No notice to the contrary having been received under the provisions of Tit. II, Sect. vi, cl. 6 (Statutes, 1997, p. 15), the following resolution is deemed to have been approved at noon on 7 February.

CONGREGATION 8 February

1 Declaration of approval of unopposed Statute promulgated on 18 January

No notice of opposition having been given, Mr Vice-Chancellor declared the Statute concerning the nomination of Delegates of the University Press approved.

2 Promulgation of Statutes

Forms of Statutes were promulgated. No notice of opposition having been given, Mr Vice-Chancellor declared the preambles carried of the proposed Statutes (1) concerning the integration of the University's libraries, and (2) converting the Wilde Readership in Mental Philosophy to a Professorship of Mental Philosophy.

Declaration of approval of Special Resolutions

(1) That the Curators of the University Chest be authorised to make available to Council each year a sum based on the total annual uncommitted income in both the unearmarked part of the Higher Studies Fund and the Social Studies Fund over the period to the end of 2005–6. Such expenditure shall be subject to regular monitoring, including written reports to the Trustees of the Higher Studies Fund.

(2) That the Curators of the University Chest be authorised to expend from the unearmarked part of the Higher Studies Fund a sum of £85K over three years to cover the cost of a postdoctoral research assistant, together with a grant of £4.5K per annum for five years to fund visitors to Oxford for visiting seminar programmes, both grants being in support of the incoming Wallis Professor of Mathematics.

(3) That the Curators of the University Chest be authorised to expend from the unearmarked part of the Higher Studies Fund a grant of £55K over two years to provide funding for a postdoctoral research assistant, this grant being in support of the Royal Academy of Engineering/AEA Technology/INSS Research Professor in Microanalytical Techniques.
