Call for UN to strive harder on human rights

The need for fresh approaches in protecting human rights, as the
United Nations approaches its 50th anniversary of the Universal
Declartion of Human Rights in 1998, was the theme of the 1997 Romanes
Lecture given by Mrs Mary Robinson, the new UN High Commissioner for
Human Rights.

Research income tops £107m last year

overseas industry and government topped £107 million last
year—including a significant jump in the amount invested by
