There is an error in the regulations printed in Examination Decrees and Regulations, 1997, p. 190, in that alternative versions of the Engineering papers to be taken are given.

Examiners, candidates, and tutors should note that lines 33–8 should be deleted.

With the approval of the General Board, the following changes in regulations made by boards of faculties will come in to effect on 6 March.

1 Boards of the Faculties of English Language and Literature and Medieval and Modern Languages

With effect from 1 October 2000 (for first examination in 2001)

They may also substitute one or both of the Polish papers V and VII specified below in place of the same numbered papers in Russian. The Polish options are not available to candidates offering two languages in the Honour School or to candidates for any joint school involving Modern Languages.

EXAMINATIONS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY: NOTICE

It is regretted that a number of forms concerning oral examinations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, submitted for publication in the Gazette, have been lost.

Examiners who have submitted such a notice for publication in this issue of the Gazette are asked to submit a duplicate of the form as soon as possible, for publication in the Gazette of 26 February.

The usual deadline for receipt of Gazette copy will not apply, and duplicates of the forms will be accepted at the Gazette Office, Oxford University Press, until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 24 February. Details may also be e-mailed to: gazette@admin.ox.ac.uk, or faxed to: Oxford 556646 (mark `Gazette').

Publication in the Gazette will not, however, be possible for examinations which take place on or before 26 February, and for these notice should be given by the method set out in 2 (b) in the relevant Regulations of the General Board
