Fresh moves to reach out to state schools : The University is instigating fresh initiatives to widen access and particularly to encourage more undergraduate applications from state schools, including the creation of a new task group.

New Registrar appointed : The University has appointed Mr David Holmes, currently Registrar and Secretary of the University of Birmingham, as its next Registrar.

Review urged for `archaic' English commercial law : A senior University lawyer has desrcibed English commercial law as archaic, shamefully neglected, and `in need of urgent and complete review.

Oriental Studies courses win teaching praise : The Faculty of Oriental Studies scored 22 out of a possible 24 points in the Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA) recently completed under the auspices of the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Lloyd's Chairman is to be new Templeton President : Templeton College has elected Sir David Rowland, Chairman of Lloyd's, as its next President.
