Oxford University Museum of Natural History

Charity event: auction of promises

An Auction of Promises will be held at 8 p.m. on Sat., 22 Nov., in St Edward's School, Woodstock Road. The auctioneer will be Humphrey Carpenter. Volunteers sought

Oxfordshire Mental Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for volunteers to act as Mental Health Act `Managers' with the important responsibility of reviewing the compulsory detention of people under the Mental Health Act 1983. The duties of the Managers are: to hear patients' appeals against detention when requested by the patient; to review detention of patients where appropriate; to consider Renewal of Authority notices. Time commitment: variable, on average 2 appeal hearings a week of 1--2½ hours' duration involving 3 managers drawn from a panel. Training sessions are arranged.
