Heart research wins £7 million Wellcome grant : Oxford's cardiovascular researchers have successfully bid for a £7 million grant from the Wellcome Trust over the next seven years, primarily to apply genetic advances to heart diseases.

Mackay and Mirrlees in list of eight honorands : Eight distinguished figures are set to receive honorary degrees from the University at Encaenia, on 24 June, subject to the approval of Congregation on 10 February 1998.

New Year's Honours for six with Oxford ties : A life Peerage for the new Master of University College and a knighthood for former Vice-Chancellor, Dr Peter North, were among the awards for those associated with Oxford, which were given in this year's New Year's Honours List.

New Rover car to boost business, as Said plans go in : Dr Walter Hasselkus, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Rover, said the production of a new car at Cowley would be `a defining moment for Rover,' during a lecture hosted by the University's Said Business School.
