Promulgation of Statute

Statute: Authority to dismiss academic-related staff

Explanatory note

The following statute clarifies which persons have the authority on behalf of the University to dismiss academic-related staff in circumstances other than those which fall within the provisions of Title VIII (which relates to the Visitatorial Board) or Title XVI, Parts II-IV (which relate to dismissals by reason of redundancy, for disciplinary offences, or on medical grounds). Such dismissals, for example, may arise under the probationary procedure for academic- related staff or become necessary as a result of the unavailability of funds to support a self-financing or other non-established appointment, but in all cases academic-related staff will, under Title XVI, Part V, have the right of appeal against such dismissal.

WHEREAS it is expedient to clarify which persons have the authority on behalf of the University to dismiss academic-related staff, THE UNIVERSITY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS.

1 In Tit. X, Sect. II, cl. 1 (Statutes, 1997, p. 77), after `or to dismiss such non-academic staff,' insert `or to dismiss such academic-related staff in circumstances other than those which fall within the provisions of Title VIII or Title XVI, Parts II--IV,'. 2 Ibid., proviso (b), delete `non-academic staff' and substitute `the member of staff concerned'.
