    Statute (1): Establishment of Professorship of General Practice

    Explanatory note

    The General Board has accepted the case made by the Clinical Medicine Board for the establishment of a chair in General Practice. The cost of the post is to be covered from university funds redeployed within the Faculty of Clinical Medicine. The following statute, and the decree to be made by Council if the statute is approved, establish a Professorship of General Practice accordingly. The decree also makes provision for the creation (within a closely knit Division of Public Health and Primary Health Care sharing some posts and space) of two new departments, of Public Health and of Primary Health Care, to replace the Department of Public Health and Primary Care.

    (1) WHEREAS it is expedient to establish a Professorship of General Practice, THE UNIVERSITY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS.

    In Tit. XIV, Sect. II, cl. 1 (Statutes, 1995, p. 106), after `Professorship of General Linguistics' insert:

    `Professorship of General Practice'.

    `§ 90. Professor of General Practice

    1. The Professor of General Practice shall engage in advanced study and research and shall lecture and give instruction in Primary Health Care.

    2. The professor shall be elected by an electoral board consisting of:

    (1) the Vice-Chancellor, or, if the head of the college specified in (2) of this clause is Vice- Chancellor, a person appointed by Council;

    (2) the head of the college to which the professorship shall be for the time being allocated by Council under any decree in that behalf, or, if the head is unable or unwilling to act, a person appointed by the governing body of the college;

    (3) a person appointed by the governing body of the college specified in (2) of this clause;

    (4) a person appointed by Council;

    (5)–(7) three persons appointed by the General Board;

    (8), (9) two persons appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Clinical Medicine;

    (10) a person holding a clinical appointment appointed by the Oxfordshire Health Authority. At least three members of the board, of whom one shall be a professor, shall hold clinical appointments.

    3. The professor shall hold qualifications entitling him or her to be registered with the General Medical Council as a medical practitioner.

    4. The professor shall be subject to the General Provisions of the decree concerning the duties of professors and to those Particular Provisions of the same decree which are applicable to this chair.'

    Statute (2): Establishment of Norton Rose Professorship of Commercial and Financial Law

    Explanatory note

    Norton Rose has made the extremely generous offer to fund, on a five-year rolling basis, a new professorship, to be called the Norton Rose Professorship of Commercial and Financial Law, and support costs. The following statute, and the decree to be made by Council if the statute is approved, formally establish the Norton Rose Professorship of Commercial and Financial Law.

    (2) WHEREAS it is expedient to establish the Norton Rose Professorship of Commercial and Financial Law, THE UNIVERSITY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS.

    Statute (3): Norton Rose Professorship of English Law

    Explanatory note

    The following statute, and the decree to be made by Council if the statute is approved, change the title of the existing Norton Rose Professorship of English Law to that of Professorship of English Law, following Norton Rose's decision to withdraw its support from this chair and instead to fund the new Norton Rose Professorship of Commercial and Financial Law (see Statute (2) above). The decree also increases the size of the electoral board for the chair from seven members to nine, in accordance with the recommendations of the Working Party on Statutory Posts.

    (3) WHEREAS it is expedient to change the title of the Norton Rose Professorship of English Law, THE UNIVERSITY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS.
