Decree (3): By-laws of the Modern Languages Faculty

Explanatory note

The following decree, made on the recommendation of the Modern Languages Board, suspends a by-law of the Modern Languages Faculty which requires at least one-third of the membership of the faculty to be present at a meeting for a motion for the amendment of a by-law to be in order, and replaces this with a provision for by-laws to be amended by a simple majority on a postal vote. This legislative device is necessary to permit the faculty to amend further of its by-laws because attendance at meetings only very exceptionally reaches the level currently required.

Text of Decree (3)

Notwithstanding the provisions of the existing by-laws of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, made under the provisions of Ch. II, Sect. xii, cl. 2 (Statutes, 1995, p. 243), that faculty may amend its by-laws by a simple majority on a postal ballot of all members of the faculty.
