Explanatory note to Decree (1)

The following decree, made on the recommendation of the Law Board and with the concurrence of the General Board, adds the Honour School of Jurisprudence to the list of those in respect of which two examiners may be appointed from the same society.

Decree (1)

In Examination Decrees, 1995, p. 983, after l. 39 insert:

`Honour School of Jurisprudence,'.

Explanatory note to Decree (2)

The following decree, made on the recommendation of the Modern Languages Board and with the concurrence of the General Board, increases the number of examiners in the Honour School of Modern Languages to make provision for there to be an examiner for Linguistics.

Decree (3)

Notwithstanding the provisions of Ch. VII, Sect. I, § 5. b, cl. 5 (Statutes, 1993, p. 353, as amended by Decree (2) of 3 February 1994, Gazette, Vol. 124, p. 726), J.C. Gittins, MA, D.Sc., Fellow of Keble College and University Lecturer in Mathematics, is appointed Head of the Department of Statistics from 19 July 1995 until 30 September 1996 or such earlier date as may be agreed.

Decree (4)

Dispensation from prescribed duties is granted to H.M. Charlton, MA, D.Phil., Fellow of Linacre College and ad hominem Reader in Neuroendocrinology, for three years from 1 September 1995 to enable him to hold a Wellcome Trust Research Leave Fellowship.

Decree (5)

Dispensation from prescribed duties is granted to D.F. Hendry, MA (MA Aberdeen; M.Sc., Ph.D. London), Fellow of Nuffield College and Professor of Economics, for five years from 1 October 1995 to enable him to hold a Leverhulme Trust Personal Research Fellowship.

Decree (6)

Dispensation from prescribed duties is granted to c.A.B. Peacocke, B.Phil., MA, D.Phil., Fellow of Magdalen College and Waynflete Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy, for five years from 1 May 1996 to enable him to hold a Leverhulme Trust Personal Research Fellowship.

Decree (7)

Notwithstanding the provisions of Ch. VIII, Sect. I, § 6, cl. 3 (a) (Examination Decrees, 1994, p. 975), Mr T. Le Quesne, Balliol, shall not be required to pay composition fees in respect of his studies for the M.Sc. in Economics for Development during 1995–6.

Decree (8)

The consent of the University is given to the amendments to Statute XI of Wadham College approved by the Governing Body on 25 January 1995, in so far as such consent is required by Section 7 (2) of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Act, 1923.

Note. The effect of the amendments is:

1. to modernise the committee structure of the college in relation to financial matters;

2. to empower the college to appoint an Investment Manager and to prescribe the latter's powers, duties, and terms of appointment, and to renumber the remaining clauses in the statute.
