Linacre wins green award

Linacre College has won this year's `Green Building of the Year Award' for its new student residence and administration wing.

Results of the national competition—sponsored by the Independent on Sunday and HVCA (the Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association)—were announced on 4 June. The award recognises the achievements of institutions which have incorporated environmental features into their new buildings, and reduced their overall environmental impact.

Other short-listed entries for the award, now in its fifth year, included impressive submissions from Anglia Polytechnic University's Queens Building in Chelmsford and the new Inland Revenue Centre in Nottingham.

The mock Queen Anne exterior of Linacre's new Abraham Building was designed by Jack Lankester, former Surveyor to the University, while the interior —a show-piece of environmentally responsible design— was created by ECD Architects and Energy Consultants.
